Near North DSB - LC Project 2013-2014 Video

The following link is our project presentation for the 2013/14 school year. We believe that we worked really hard to achieve our goals. Teachers are very comfortable working in the LMS, using it as part of their daily classroom work. It has been an absolute pleasure working with the NNDSB LC Team!

The following are excerpts from the year in progress…

January has been a very busy month at Nobel School! Students have really embraced the LMS and are using almost every day to complete their assignments, to work on interactive activities and to create and upload their work. They are also using the LMS for surveys, assessments (where they get instant feedback) and for completing Ministry created materials. Here’s a collage of the students working!

In December, Jackie Bourdon, worked with a group of teachers at W.J. Fricker to get their LMS sites up and running. They also enlisted the help of Joel Wood, the NNDSB eLearning Contact. Their next step is to have kids accessing math content and using apps (such as Explain Everything) to document their explanations for solving mathematical problems.

On October 22nd, Marlene Michaelis’ group met with me to learn how to effectively use the LMS. It was quite the learning curve that day! We learned how to search the OERB and then upload content to our course shells, we learned how to enhance the course shell so that it looked pleasing to the eye and we also learned that we have a lot more to learn! The LMS (D2L) is a huge program and we could spend days and days learning so much!

At any rate, here a few photos of us working away at Nobel School in Parry Sound.

October 2nd NNDSB Planning Meeting at Sunset Park School in North Bay – Learning about the LMS (D2L)

Project Description:

We will promote the D2L LMS in our schools by providing release for teachers to develop their own LMS course shell. We will follow up on the teacher release by spending one or two periods with each class to confirm/implement platform with students.

We will also provide training/instruction/guidance to teachers on how to better integrate the use of iPads as a tool for education by: a) Providing release for lead teachers to come into classrooms to work with teachers and their students with the focus on Literacy and/or Numeracy instruction.

Professional Learning Program:

There be an opportunities to have any PD on new LMS initiatives or changes for lead teachers provided by Jane Henderson and Joel Wood (Blended Learning/ELearning Board Contact).
