Learning Connections Champions Spring Conference

Below are a few images from our Keynote created slide presentation we demonstrated in addition to our notes and experiences.

May 10, 2013 – Forest of Reading

FESTIVAL OF TREES

One of the ways that our Teacher/Librarians collaborated was registering in the OLA Forest of Reading reading program .T/L’s  and students read the nominated selections and voted for their favourite books. T/L’s collaborated with classroom teachers and CAHEP (Community Arts and Heritage in Education Program) to produce works of art that were inspired by the “Blue Spruce” nominated selection. As a culminating activity tocelebrate the winning books and authors, students attended the Festival of Trees.

EDMODO POSTER SESSION

To encourage the use of Edmodo amongTeacher/Librarians as a useful Web 2.0 tool,we wanted to share our project with a greater audience. We decided to submit a proposal to the OLA poster session selection committee for the upcoming 2013 Super Conference. The OLA Super Conference is an international conference for all types of library divisions including Public, Medical, College & University and School libraries. Our proposal was accepted and we shared our Edmodo project at the Super Conference which attracted many delegates in our school library sector. Anita Drossis was in attendance and we met other District Champion team members.

GOALS FOR MOVING FORWARD

To move forward with our District Champions EDMODO project we reviewed  our Edmodo survey that was conducted at the end of the school year in June of 2012. We determined how we would move forward by incorporating the usage of Edmodo as a PLN (Personal Learning Network) and use as a source of collaboration between Teacher/Librarians and classroom teachers. We would like to stress the importance of on-line safety and usage  by teaching online skills demonstrating digital citizenship. We will use the Forest of Reading nominated titles as a springboard for using SMARTboard technology by creating interactive lessons using “Notebook ” software.
