Thunder Bay Catholic DSB 2013-14

The project would see a fully integrated, collaborative community of learners focusing on the instructional core and supporting 21st century learning outcomes. Through the use of the provincial VLE (virtual learning environment), web 2.0 collaborative and knowledge building tools teachers, teacher librarians and program leaders will

investigate exemplary Ministry provided resources to support their work and grow as professionals.

Project aligns with the Board plan for improvement in literacy and numeracy:

Theory of Action for Improvement in Literacy

If students are provided with opportunities to engage in rich, relevant, complex tasks (which are inclusive and culturally relevant) and are engaged in co-learning during the feedback cycle, then students will be able to:

  • articulate their learning
  • understand what Level 3 and 4 work looks like
  • recognize how to improve their work
  • engage in accountable talk
  • make deep connections
  • think critically

For the project, teacher-librarians would co-plan with classroom teachers in support of this goal. Where ever appropriate, students would use ministry-provided digital tools and resources for their inquiry.

  • articulate their learning
  • understand what Level 3 and 4 work looks like
  • recognize how to improve their work
  • engage in accountable talk
  • use mathematical language
  • make links to their lived world
